Hamilton Island

Hamilton Island
Wild Oates
Robert Oatley

They all talk about it
most of the yachties dont like it

So we thought we would check it out
Called up on the radio and asked if it was possible to tie up for a couple of hours to have lunch
O yes the answer was
A dingy came out and followed us in to the dock
Helped us tie up and I thought wow this is great service
Then he pulled the card swiping machine out of his pocket ( SHIT WE HAVE NO MONEY!!!)
He asked how long we would stay for , and told us it was $ 17 / hour.
So we figured we could stay for three hours and share a lunch.
Lets spend the last cents we have on the luxury Island
Went up to the tavern, the guy that charged us said that was the cheapest and best place to have lunch.
You could smell the money at the place when we where walking up to the main stripp
Smart good looking people and could see and feel all the money in theire wallets
Just such a qute little town
A small stripp with all you need
So we went up to the tavern and ordered a chicken parmecianio or how ever you spell it and a bottle of wild oates sav blanch and the money was spent just right to the last cents
Yes we enjoid it it was just great
And we enjoid eating that food so much after a while out on the water
Amazing what you chose to spend your last money on
Loved every minute of it
Rich or pore, everything in between is crapp!

We just loved this place

Close whale contact # 2 Brampton Island

This time the whale was dead
A Humpback got hit by a tanker and died
He was drifting past our yacht and we drove over to have a closer look
It was just horrible
So sad
This massive thing floating belly up
The smell was something I hope I will never smell again
He was helf eaten
It was so sad
B cirkeled around
Sharks was eating on him
TIGER SHARKS
The seacond most deadliest
We could see 3 of them and the biggest one was about 12ft
You need to zoom on some of the photos to be able to see
We still dont have a good zoom for the camera
But a got a few pictures
This is just something incredible and we are very lucky to have seen something like this
OR maybe unlucky
We both swam in the water the day before, about 200 m away from the Tiger Sharks
Not sure I am so keen to go swimming again
Wow
This was just so close
To see a shark eating a whale like that
Just not real
At one stage the big shark came right towards our yacht, like he was telling us to F off.
I you can zoom in you can acctually really see his face close up
Really scary but wow so incredible
 Dead male humpback belly up

 Tiger shark

 Not so friendly tiger shark

Tiger shark eating whale for lunch

 Tiger shark taking a bit
He could kill us in no time

Thats the beach where we where swimming the day before
Tiger shark swimming towards the yacht
Thats what I call a big finn
We have really seen some things lately

Close whale contact Brampton Island #1

Took the dingy for a ride at Brampton Island
Saw a whale that was pretty close so we turned the outboard of
The whale disapeared and we thought he was gone
But there he was
Under us
About 5ft under our dingy, belly up
Incredible
Could almost of touched him
If he flinched or flicked his tail we would of been in the water
Just amazing
I just froze and didnt really get a photo
All we could see was white on both sides of the dingy and then he came up infront of us
Just crazy

Brampton Island

Left Mackay to get to Brampton Island

The Percy Islands

Have been without coverage on phone and internet for a while...

So I will try to start from last post...

Last post took me about three hours to upload photos and by that time I was to tired to write anything.

Island Head Creek was just stunning!

So to start with

The Percy's
About 40nm out at sea is The Percy group located
Everyone was talking about the Percys so we thought we had to have a look at it
Quite scary to be that far out at sea
So we arrived to Middle Percy almost at sunset
A dozen of boats anchored there and it looked quite sweet
A small beach with palmtrees and a hut on the beach
Anchor down just before sunset
Jumped in the dingy to have a look on the beach
I loved it
A small hut with swaps, take one leave one
A few books and magazines to swap and also notes on whos been there
Keept walking and came to Percy Yacht Club, now that was incredible
A two story hut that yachties buildt
With tables and chaires, working bench, lights, large bbq area at the back, honey and lime juice for sale from the island and posters, paintings, souveniers that yachties left behind al the way back to the 60s. Just incredible
B didnt like if but I thought it was really cool
Lots of mossis... no good!
But apart from that there wasnt much more
Back to Oceans and time for bed
CHecked the chartplotter to make sure we where ready to leave in the morning
Wasted alot of time and fuel to get al the way out there for not alot to look at
We almost had no fuel left and no wind to sail
No coverage on phones or internet
Chartplotter was not working properly and we where running out of charts

So we woke up in the morning
No weather reports because of no internet so we listened to the radio for the weather
On our way to leave and the chartplotter wasnt working
It was turning on and of every five minutes
Not enought fuel
We would have just enough fuel to mackay and we would get there just before dark
No chartplotter so B had to use the compass, he is a good kapten.
I dont tell him that but he really is a good kapten
It was quite a nice trip, even the surcomstanses was quite SHIT
Almost a t Mackay we got coverage on the phone
Phoned up Raymarine and the best service I have ever had
He helped me to factory reset the chartplotter
We lost all our waypoints and routes but we got it working again
Thanks for that great service

Got in to Mackay marina, now thats a big marina
I freaked out as usual
Got in to the berth and had a look around
Lots of really nice boats

Mackay wasnt really anything nice
In the morning we had to wait for the fuel pumps to be serviced, they stoped working and when that was done we headed of to Brampton Island
